  1. Clicking Sound: This is the classic, telltale sign of a dead battery, and chances are you’ve experienced this for yourself at one point or another. When you jump in your car and eagerly turn the key but all you hear is a clicking sound, there’s a good chance your battery is dead.
  2. Slow Crank: Before the battery is completely dead, it will give off a slow cranking sound while it struggles to start. This is definitely a sign that you don’t want to ignore because there’s a good chance the battery will be completely dead soon.
  3. Electrical Issues: In addition to powering the engine, the battery also powers all of the electrical components of the vehicle. If you notice that your headlights dim when you turn on your lights, or any other electrical combos, that’s a sign the battery is weakening.
  4. Old Age: Although it’s different depending on the specific battery and vehicle, car batteries will last an average of five years. There are other factors that affect this as well including temperature and frequent full charge cycles.
  5. Rotten Egg Smell: Car batteries are filled with water and sulfuric acid. Throughout the years, these fluids will slowly evaporate. This changes the mixture and can therefore cause it to overheat or boil. This is what leads to the rotten egg smell of a dying battery.
