Tips to Avoid Getting Pulled Over

We know it may seem silly to discussed ways to avoid getting pulled over by the police, but it’s definitely a good conversation to have. Whether you’re a new teen driver, or you’ve been on the road for years, talking about ways in which we can better follow the law is never a bad idea. Our team here at Certified Autoplex is going to share a few suggestions on how to avoid getting pulled over when you’re the one behind the wheel.

There are two types of drivers that stick out on the road: hazardous drivers and distracted drivers. However, there are plenty of other reasons you could get pulled over when you’re not either of those two. One of our best suggestions is to relax. Driving can be stressful, but it’s important to take a deep breath and focus on the road ahead.

Avoid Hazardous Driving Behavior

One of the first things that comes to mind when we think of hazardous driving is speeding. Speeding is a sure fire way to get the attention of an officer, so let’s talk about ways to avoid it. One way to avoid speeding is by leaving on time. Be sure to get on the road when you need to so you don’t feel pressured to speed. It’s also a good idea to find a comfortable place in the middle of the rest of traffic. That way you won’t be going faster than anyone else on the road. Here are a few more hazardous behaviors to avoid behind the wheel:

  • Improper, erratic lane changes
  • Tailgating the driver ahead of you
  • Driving too slow
  • Not following road signs
  • Making illegal U-turns

Avoid Driving While Distracted

Distracted driving is another way to get pulled over by the police. However, if that’s the worst that happens to you in these cases you’d be lucky. Distracted driving has led to a ton of accidents, and a lot of this has to do with the increased use of cell phones. Texting and driving is one of the most dangerous things you can do behind the wheel. While you may argue that it only takes a few seconds to send a text message, we would argue that it also takes a few seconds for you to miss a stop sign and get in an accident. Let’s see what else to avoid:

  • Talking on the phone
  • Eating something messy or challenging
  • Putting on makeup in your vanity mirror
  • Playing DJ while you go down the highway
  • Talking & joking with other passengers
